There's no sitting on a bench waiting for your turn - here everyone plays! It takes all you've got and then some, but the thrill of racing on the water is just absolutely too cool! Explore the Wichita Rowing Association and learn to work at and take pride in being part of our team!

The current WRA rowing team has men and women (13-18 yrs) middle school, freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from Wichita and area high schools sculling and sweep rowing. We row year round. Want to find out what rowing is all about?

Now, Summer 2011, is the time for Parents and Athletes to meet the team and coaches, learn to row and erg, ask rowing questions, and be ready to scull or sweep row for the fall season.

For 2011 Summer season, The WRA High School Team is on the water in June thru August and getting ready for the fall programs, rowing on the Little Arkansas River in Riverside Park. (Look for the boats stored inside the handball courts and the dock on the Little Ark river across from the Wichita Art Museum)

Summer Practice times for the High School Team are:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30p.m. – 7:30p.m.
and Saturday 7:30am-9:30am.

WRA‘s high school crews, consisting of students from across the Wichita and surrounding schools including Andale, Andover, Goddard, Maize, practice and compete year-round – traveling to local and regional regattas. Give a call to car pool.

Juniors Membership dues are $30.00 for 12-18 year old in school per quarter session (4 quarters per year-spring, summer, fall, and winter sessions) -includes Rowing coach for On-Site Coached Workouts, Boats, Oars, Ergometers, Weights as part of the rowing program.

Congratulations go to 2011 Graduates Lizzy M. (Trinity High )for her rowing schoolarship to Oklahoma City University and Hanna S. (Wichita North High)that has a rowing scholarships with the freshman KSU NCAA Women’s Rowing program

Prior High School graduates from the WRA Juniors program have also gone onto rowing in college programs at Wichita State University, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Minnesota and Ohio just to name a few.

The 2010 fall season saw Lizzy M. and Brandon Fair win gold in Juniors singles at the OCU Head of the Oklahoma Regatta. Just recently, the team just raced 2000 meter and 500 meter races at the Shocker sprints February 12, 2011, Topeka Erg Race February 19, Topeka Rowing Regatta April 30 and Regional Youth National Regatta in OKC May 7, 2011.

In 2010, the Wichita Rowing Association high school program had one High School Graduate from Andover that has signed rowing scholarships with the freshman KU NCAA Women’s Rowing program


2009 Graduates Sydney Blanton, Sydney Fish (WRA 2009 Team Captain) and have signed with the Wichita State Rowing Team. In addition, 2009 saw High School Graduates from Wichita East, Independent, Maize and Trinity high schools that have signed rowing scholarships with the WSU Rowing Team and KSU NCAA Women’s Rowing programs for their Fall 2009/Spring 2010 semesters.

2009 Maize Senior Nicole Stucky signs with KSU NCAA women's Crew and continues to Row competitively for KSU Crew in 2011.

DID YOU KNOW...
Sculling requires rowing with two sculling oars (one oar for each hand).

Sweep rowing requires only one oar for both hands, and usually has a coxin steering the boat as well.
